Sarah Pondevie

Sarah Pondevie is an award-winning Western Australian artist who grew up in Walyalup (Fremantle). She works in oils, pastels and watercolour, as she finds that all of these disciplines influence and inform each other to complement her style. With each, she looks for purity in pigments that reflect the vibrant light of Australia. She is mostly known for her pastel work, and in 2022 she won First Prize in the Pastel Society of WA annual exhibition. She also likes to work in oils, and in 2023 she won the Plein Air Award at the WASA exhibition and at the FOLWAG Quick Draw Plein Air Competition oils category. At the Watercolour Society of WA Plein Air Competition 2023 she won second prize. In 2022 she was resident artist at Rottnest. She rode around the island painting, as observation is an important part of her practice, particularly plein air and working from life. She brings these experiences into the studio when she is not out travelling. Her design elements focus on colours in shadows and reflected light.
