The Albany Summer School Welcomes Renata Wright

Renata Wright is a Western Australian artist living in Perth. Her early artistic influence was watching her father making leather belts, bags, saddles and more. The intricate carved designs on each item were what interested Renata most, and she spent many hours copying the designs, and drawing, painting and being creative in whatever ways she could. Although she wanted to study graphic design when she left high school, she was encouraged to learn “something more reliable” so she did secretarial studies instead. However, she never lost her love for art and learned oil painting, pottery, drawing and watercolour out of work hours. Renata continued experimenting with art and developing skills in her favourite medium – watercolour – and after many years of combining part-time office work and part-time art (painting, attending courses, and teaching adults and children), she finally bit the bullet and is now following her dream of being a full-time artist. She has found a love for spider and pig art, and is now developing a series of both while she continues to teach all subjects in her regular watercolour classes.

Watercolour for Beginners
This course with Renata Wright is an introduction to watercolour materials, techniques and simple subjects. Learn about watercolour paper, brushes, paints and accessories, how to mix colours (including the dreaded greens), compose an interest-painting, and understand tonal values and the importance of shapes. Each lesson will finish with a simple scene, created with the technique you have just learned.

Beginners, Intermediate (18+ years)

Botanicals in Watercolours
Renata Wright will teach realistic floral paintings, focusing on flowers, buds, stems and leaves. Students will spend time studying entire flowers (from real life and photographs), creating thumbnail sketches, mixing colours, and then putting all of this together to paint realistic watercolour paintings. You will add your own flair to each painting with extra techniques that Renata will share with you.
