Explore working with wire to make a unique wall piece. You will learn from Tania Spencer how to use textile techniques in wire to describe line and texture, then learn how to manipulate wire meshes to create pattern. Translate a simple drawing or design by constructing your piece entirely with line-work or build your design onto a mesh base for structure.
Tania Spencer is a sculptor based in Lake Grace, who has a love for all things wire. She creates large hand bent knitted wire sculpture, suspended wire textile installations, wire drawings, crocheted, knitted and metal embroideries in copper and steel. She also constructs work with recycled textiles, plastics and metals. More recently her work has shifted to include softer textile interventions in the public domain. Created with brightly coloured surveyor's tape, these optimistic new installations are markers on the landscape, industrial signifiers of change and places of activity. Tania has a BA from Curtin University and has had 4 solo exhibitions. She has been included in many national group exhibitions such as Love Lace at the Powerhouse Museum and Tamworth Textile Triennial and has exhibited in Sculpture by the Sea Cottesloe and Bondi numerous times. Tania is available for private commissions and festivals and takes sculpture workshop bookings for schools and community groups. www.taniaspencer.com
