Threads and Pages – Handmade Journal Workshop
With Jenny Elliott

Threads and Pages invites you into the gentle, meditative world of slow stitching and creative repurposing. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll transform a recycled old book into a one-of-a-kind journal with a beautiful vintage feel. Using the original book cover as your foundation, you’ll layer gorgeous papers, textiles, and found materials, binding them together with a simple stitching technique that is deeply satisfying.

As you stitch, layer, and play with texture, your journal cover will evolve into a small textile artwork in its own right. Beginners can keep their stitches simple and intuitive, while those with experience in slow stitching are encouraged to explore more detailed, expressive designs. This workshop is designed to help you slow down, enjoy the rhythm of handwork, and discover the creative possibilities hidden in reclaimed materials.

A treasure trove of papers, fabrics, vintage linens, and textiles will be provided, offering endless combinations of colour, pattern, and texture. You’re also welcome to bring along any special papers, fabrics, doilies, or vintage pieces you’d love to incorporate. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a meaningful handmade journal—part artwork, part keepsake—and the inspiration to continue stitching new life into old books.

Jenny Elliott

Jenny has been a paper crafter for more than 30 years and has taught craft and cardmaking workshops in Mandurah for well over a decade.

Six years ago Jenny was introduced to junk journals and that passion has grown into creating beautiful journals using a combination of papers, textiles and thread.

One of the things she enjoys most about this craft is giving old books a new life and turning them into something unique and meaningful instead of letting them end up in landfill.

In recent years Jenny has also developed a love of slow stitching, which beautifully complements her journal making and adds another creative element for students to explore.

Jenny has recently returned to her hometown of Albany for retirement and is really looking forward to sharing what she loves with others through the Albany Summer School. Her classes are relaxed and welcoming and ideal for anyone who enjoys being creative and making something truly personal.
