Rust Never Sleeps – Painting Rust in Watercolour
With Renata Wright

In this watercolour workshop, you’ll explore how to capture those rich, weathered surfaces using layered pigments and expressive techniques. We’ll look closely at the surprising palette within rust — warm ochres, deep browns, smoky blues, and unexpected flashes of orange — and how they mingle and settle to create depth and age. You’ll be guided step by step as we paint a character-filled rusty lock, learning how to build convincing texture, suggest pitted surfaces, and create defined detail.

It’s a wonderful exercise in observation and patience, with plenty of room for those happy, unpredictable watercolour moments. Suitable for all skill levels, this workshop invites you to slow down, look closely, and discover the beauty hidden in worn and weathered things.
