Pete Inglis and Patrick Mettam

Pete Inglis started collecting and growing bonsai in 1992 although it has only been in the past 13 years that his passion has really grown. The inspiration came from his father John, who gave him an old Chinese Elm. Pete is interested in working with Australian native trees and experimenting with new forms to create interesting trees. Pete has participated in workshops with renowned Australian and international bonsai artists.

He represents WA as a Selector for the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection at the National Arboretum in Canberra and regularly travels to Japan, honing his skills and knowledge.

Patrick Mettam has been involved in the bonsai community on both a local and national scale. He has participated in workshops with Australian and international bonsai artists. In 2024, he travelled to Japan to study traditional techniques with fourth-generation bonsai artist Koji Hiramatsu. Patrick enjoys traditional Japanese bonsai, and is especially passionate about bonsai using Australian species, particularly those native to WA.

Both Pete and Patrick are eager to share their enthusiasm for this living art form, and to help others develop an appreciation and interest in bonsai.
