Acting for Film
With Myles Pollard

This five-day Acting for Film intensive is designed for students wanting to develop greater confidence, authenticity and technical understanding in screen performance. Suitable for all levels — from complete beginners through to emerging actors — the program provides a practical and supportive introduction to the craft of acting for camera. Across the week, students will explore core screen acting techniques including text analysis, objectives, emotional truth, naturalism and scene construction.

Through monologue and scene work, participants will learn how to create believable, grounded performances while developing a stronger understanding of how acting for screen differs from stage performance. The intensive also places a strong focus on managing nerves, self-consciousness and performance pressure.

Drawing on Myles Pollard’s extensive experience as an actor, director, producer, teacher and corporate communication facilitator, students will be introduced to practical tools to improve presence, focus and emotional connection on camera. Basic camera craft and on-set awareness will also be introduced, giving students insight into the professional expectations and working environment of the film and television industry.

All performance work will be filmed and reviewed in a constructive and supportive environment designed to encourage creative risk-taking, collaboration and confidence. The program draws on Myles’ professional screen experience across film and television, directing and producing work, and many years teaching and mentoring actors — including students who have gone on to train at institutions such as WAAPA and NIDA.
