407: Copper Foiling for Stained Glass Creation

Mark Hewson will show students what can be achieved and how to create a glass artwork using the method of copper foiling. This will include design, glass selection, cutting, grinding, copper foiling, soldering and finishing off ready to install.

Students will learn the process and then have the opportunity to create their own individual piece to finish the week.

Mark Hewson

Visual arts practitioner and glass art designer Mark Hewson, has an extensive history of private commissions for residential and commercial artwork locally, regionally, interstate and overseas.

His glass artworks can be seen at the Albany Health Campus, Yakamia Primary School, Albany Justice Complex and the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre. He has collaborated with many of Western Australia’s well-respected artists including Robert Juniper and David Walker on various projects in the metropolitan area.

In 2006 he was awarded a Churchill Trust Fellowship that led to an overseas study tour investigating glass fabrication, public art and the latest innovations in design and technology. He was able to view installations and architecture, and networked with international artists, designers, and engineers.
