402: From Linocut to Print

Discover the secrets of linocut printmaking without a press.

Day one: drawing and designing for linocut – how to adapt an image.

Day two: carve your plate – learn different carving techniques.

Day three: printing by hand without a press, includes a demonstration by tutor Shana James on how to hand-colour your print.

In this class you will create between 1 and 3 black and white hand-printed linocuts suitable to add watercolour to at a later date, after the print has fully cured (it takes two weeks for the linocut to become waterproof).

Shana James

Shana James is an award winning West Australian artist and educator who works in painting, drawing and printmaking. She has maintained a continued art practice over the past 30 years, exhibiting widely in Perth and Melbourne, including ten solo exhibitions. Shana has recently completed a master’s degree in visual art at Edith Cowan University. She has artworks in the Collections of Kerry Stokes, Artbank, The WA Water Corporation, Penrhos College, The Western Australian Ministry for Culture and the Arts and Monash University.
