115: Upcycle Art

Michael O’Doherty will take his students through art-making using lightweight recycled materials such as polystyrene foam, electronic components, kiddies’ toys and small household items.

He will show them how to use techniques and equipment such as spray painting, hot glue guns, heat guns, stencilling, undercoating, dry brushing & basic colour theory.

Michael O’Doherty

Michael O’Doherty studied art at Prahran College Melbourne 1984 and Claremont Art School 1987-90. His art career has involved painting, sculpture, music, writing and performance.

He travelled Europe in 1989 earning his living playing music and painting murals. Michael often uses recycled materials – metal, wood and plastic – in his sculptures. These are given surface treatments using old paint and oil from various sources. For which he is given the occasional award.
