About Albany Summer School

In the late 1950s a group of friends got together and decided the time was right put into action a plan they had. They were interested in arts and crafts and wanted to build on their skills and enable others to learn. In January 1960 the first Albany Summer School was held.

Since those early days the choices have expanded beyond the firm favourites, to the latest ‘on trend’ activity or thing and nowadays we are pleased to offer something for everyone.

We invite you to look through our website, check out what we do and what we offer. You might want to attend a course or volunteer this year, join our committee next year or just enjoy the pictures. Like the many that came before us, the current committee happily volunteer, presenting two weeks of learning, improving, socialising and having fun.

The fees you pay are used to cover the cost of this years Albany Summer School (venue hire, tutor fees, materials, insurance, operating costs, equipment, marketing etc.) and seed fund next years, and your input and comments are always welcome.

"We had a great tutor, content was well paced and great content. We were provided a great balance between giving us plenty of challenges, many techniques but at a pace that gave us plenty of time to work them out. Our tutor provided heaps of materials for us at very reasonable costs. I’d do this one again."

This was my first Albany Summer School, a friend told me about it, the course was excellently presented, well researched and thought provoking. Our tutor had an in-depth knowledge of this subject was well prepared, with many thoughts raised.

I have been to Summer School before, I found out about the course on Facebook. It’s a great atmosphere, nice people, the volunteers are all so happy. The workshop was great, our tutor was fantastic, we had a lovely group of people, learnt so much. I really liked it being condensed into 3 days instead of a whole week.
